Renovations Before and After: Old Farmhouse to Traditional Southern-Style Oasis
One family came to us with the goal of renovating an old farmhouse into their dream home: a traditional southern-style oasis with a first-floor master suite addition. They also wanted to increase their outdoor living space to comfortably enjoy the view. So, our team set out to help them bring their ideas to life with our design-build approach.
The Design Process
We began our design process by listening to the client’s desires, needs, and ideas for their renovation before creating a floor plan for the new master suite addition. The blueprints included a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and double vanity, as well as a spacious walk-in closet with custom cabinetry.
Our client wanted details commonly found in traditional southern homes incorporated into the interior and exterior design plan. A few of these included:
- A double tray ceiling in the master bedroom
- Wainscot trim and wood moldings along the perimeter of the room
- Sharp-pitched gable roofs on the second-story plan

The Build-Out Process
After we mapped out renovation plans with our client and received their approval, we got to work on the project’s interior and exterior construction. This included:
- Extending the front porch
- Adding a new sitting porch
- Designing soft, brick-lined arches (to contrast the sharp gable roofs)
- Creating a rich, earthy exterior aesthetic with LP SmartSide Lap and Shake Siding
- Adding brick and stone to the exterior
- Installing energy-efficient windows and LED lighting
Here’s the end result, a traditional Southern-style home:
After years of dreaming, this family had a clear idea of what they wanted for their remodel. We worked with these clients to get their vision on paper, finalize the design details in build-ready drawings, and create a realistic timeline and budget before construction even began.
We loved helping this family tackle their old farmhouse renovation and bring their Southern-style dream home to life!
