Early Years

Learning the Trades

Scott’s introduction to construction began while working alongside his father, who transitioned into home remodeling after retiring from the Air Force. From plumbing repairs to summer jobsite work, Scott spent his early years developing hands on skills and a strong work ethic.

1980s–1990s

Professional Carpentry Across the Country

After high school, Scott worked in industrial and commercial carpentry across Ohio, Colorado, and Boston. These years included framing, concrete work, and large-scale commercial projects that built the technical foundation he relies on today. Eventually, Scott moved to Lafayette and continued working in industrial construction before shifting toward residential remodeling.

1999

S. Brown Construction Is Established

Scott launched S. Brown Construction in 1999, focusing on remodeling and additions. The business steadily grew as clients recognized the value of his craftsmanship, communication, and reliability.

Owner

Scott has nearly 40 years of experience in residential remodeling and construction, having grown up working alongside his father in the industry. As owner of S. Brown Construction, he leads every project with a strong focus on planning, code-compliant construction, and long-term client trust.

Ann Benham

Account Manager

Ann has been with S. Brown Construction since 2009 and oversees the company’s financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and receivables. With a background in financial advising, she plays a key role in keeping projects and processes running smoothly behind the scenes.

Ella Gage

Lead Interior Designer

Ella is a Ball State University graduate with a degree in Interior Design and a strong foundation in architectural design. She leads clients through the design process with a thoughtful, detail-driven approach that balances function, aesthetics, and livability.

Richard Bagsby

Lead Project Manager

Richard brings over 25 years of combined experience in union carpentry and construction management. He is known for his steady leadership, attention to detail, and ability to guide complex custom projects from planning through completion.

Alex Osorio

Project Manager

Alex brings a broad hands-on background in residential construction, with experience spanning fine carpentry, kitchens, bathrooms, and detailed interior work. He approaches each project with a problem-solving mindset and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.

Jeremy Clanin

Lead Carpenter

Jeremy has over 25 years of experience in the carpenters union, with expertise ranging from structural work to detailed finish carpentry. His deep field knowledge and precision craftsmanship play a critical role in executing high-quality projects.

Riley Kangai

Interior Designer

Riley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Indiana University and brings a refined eye for space planning and material selection. She enjoys shaping interiors that feel intentional, timeless, and tailored to the way clients live.

Drew Buechler

Field Technician

Drew holds an Associate Degree in Construction Technology and brings both education and hands-on experience to the field. He supports daily jobsite operations and contributes to maintaining quality and consistency across projects.

Jaydence Brown

Interior Designer Intern

Jaydence is an Interior Design intern with hands-on training from the Greater Lafayette Career Academy’s Construction Trades program. She supports the design team through research, planning, and project development while continuing her education in design and construction management.

1 | Initial Meeting and Project Understanding

We begin by meeting at your home to learn about your goals, priorities, and the challenges with your current space. 2 | Design, Planning, and Budget Alignment

Once the design agreement is signed, our team develops detailed drawings, material selections, and specifications for your project. Every decision is documented so you know exactly what the finished space will include and what it will cost. This structured planning phase often takes several weeks and ensures clarity, accuracy, and a fully developed scope before construction begins. By the end of this step, you have a complete design package and a confirmed investment.

3 | Construction and Project Completion

After approving the plans and budget, we move into construction with a clear roadmap. Our team manages the schedule, subcontractors, and quality control while keeping you updated throughout the build. The work is completed according to the approved design and specifications, ensuring consistency from planning to final walkthrough. The project concludes when every detail meets our standards and yours.
